We measure by wrapping around the waist band.

MEASURING THE FRONT RISE
We measure from the crotch to the top of the of the jeans. In the case of this photo, it would measure 13'. 

MEASURING THE BACK RISE
Measure from the crotch seam to the top of the back waistband of the jeans. The rise of the photo would be 17', in this case.

MEASURING THE UPPER THIGH
Measure straight from the crotch to the outside of the leg. In this case, the measurement of the thigh will span 12 3/4'. 

MEASURING THE KNEE
We measure the seam 14" down from the upper tight line, shown here.
In the case of this photo, it would measure 12 5/8'.
